When things don’t quite add up
Your child may appear to be doing well on the surface. They might be bright, curious, and full of ideas. Teachers or family members may describe them as capable or able.
Yet as a parent, you may notice that things don’t always feel easy for them. There may be frustration over small things, worries that are hard to explain or moments where emotions suddenly spill over.
This can leave you wondering how a child who is clearly bright can still seem to struggle.
Looking beyond ability
Being bright does not mean everything feels straightforward. Your child may be working incredibly hard to manage everyday expectations, coping with emotions, dealing with change, navigating friendships or keeping up with routines.
Because they are capable, the effort they are putting in is not always visible to others. Over time, this effort can build up and show itself through frustration, anxiety or emotional overwhelm, often in the places where your child feels safest.
Noticing patterns
Often, what helps most is taking a step back and noticing the patterns. When does your child seem most overwhelmed? What situations seem to trigger frustration or worry? When do they seem more settled and confident?
These patterns can give important clues about what may be happening beneath the surface.
Understanding your child
At Tabla Psychology, we begin by listening carefully to families and to children themselves. Every child has their own profile of strengths, differences and ways of experiencing the world.
By building a clearer understanding of your child’s needs, it becomes easier to think about the kinds of support that may help them feel more confident, settled and able to thrive.
