How to Start Your Journey with Tabla Psychology

How to Start Your Journey with Tabla Psychology

Families come to us at different points, with different questions and levels of certainty. There is no single right way to begin, and no expectation that families follow a set pathway.

Our role is to help you understand your options and decide what feels most appropriate for your child or young person.

Speaking to the Clinic

If you would like a brief, informal conversation before booking, you are very welcome to call the clinic.

Nathan Duncan, Practice Manager, is happy to be the first point of contact for general enquiries. He can answer practical questions about our services and help you think about which option may be most suitable.

Discovery Call

A Discovery Call is a short, informal, non-clinical conversation for families who would like general information about our service.

Discovery Calls are held by James Turley (QTS), Specialist Teacher, Assessor and Director of Tabla Psychology.

This can be helpful if you would like to:

  • understand the types of assessments and support we offer
  • ask general questions about our approach and processes
  • decide whether you would like to proceed with booking

Discovery Calls do not involve screening, assessment or clinical advice.

Comprehensive Pre-Screening

Our Comprehensive Pre-Screening is a detailed, clinician-led screening process for families who want a thorough understanding of their child’s profile before deciding whether to pursue a full assessment.

It draws on structured screening measures and professional analysis across areas such as:

  • Autism
  • ADHD
  • learning and cognition
  • emotional wellbeing and regulation
  • sensory processing

A detailed written report is provided, offering clear guidance about what next steps could look like. This may include one of our assessments, or may indicate that alternative support or monitoring is more appropriate.

In-School Observation

An In-School Observation provides contextual insight into how a child or young person presents within their everyday learning environment.

This service can be particularly helpful where:

  • home and school experiences differ
  • there is uncertainty about whether assessment is appropriate
  • understanding the school context would support clearer decision-making

The observation results in a brief, focused report summarising key observations and indicating possible next steps. These may include one of our assessments, or may suggest that assessment is not currently indicated.

Assessments

Where appropriate, families may choose to commission one of our assessments, including Autism, ADHD, joint Autism and ADHD, Educational Psychology, or learning-focused assessments.

Assessments are only recommended where they are clinically appropriate and likely to be helpful. There is no expectation to progress to assessment unless this feels right for you.

Our Approach

We take a careful, proportionate and child-centred approach. Families are supported to make informed decisions, without pressure to follow a particular route or to progress beyond any stage.

You are welcome to engage with our service in the way that best meets your needs.
